FAQs
How long does coaching last? Every client is different, however I have a minimum commitment of six-sessions. Experience has shown that most people like to do about three to six-months and then take a break to put their ideas into action. Many return after a period of time (anywhere from 3 months to a full year later) to share their successes, stretch their goals and refine their strategies. Services.
Who benefits from a coach? Anyone can benefit from a sounding board and artful guide. You will receive the greatest benefit if you come to coaching with an open mind, a brave spirit and the willingness to change.
What kind of people do you coach? My clients vary but I love tough-minded, tender-hearted people. I don't have much patience for boring people or scaredy cats. In general my clients are:
1. Very smart people.
2. Willing to do the work, that is, they enjoy the process of self-reflection and personal growth, even when its tough.
3. Not looking for an expert to tell them what to do, rather they are seeking someone to help them find their own answers.
4. Absolutely committed to living more than a mediocre life.
5. Action-oriented, that is, you cant think your way to a better life, it has to be coupled with doing.
Will I see progress in every session? While coaching sessions often yield great insights, 'ah-ha' moments often come between sessions.
Does phone coaching really work? Yes, it does. Phone coaching allows flexibility, convenience, and the privilege of being coached in the private setting of your choice. I can hear, through tone and voice inflection, the things that you are not saying. Phone coaching allows me to coach clients all around the world. If you are in doubt we can Skype.
In addition to our coaching calls, what other tools are available to me? I will refer you to other resources (web, video, written) regularly and we are in the process of developing a series of self-coaching materials for release in late 2011.
Are our conversations confidential? Everything we discuss, including our coaching relationship, is protected by a Confidentiality Agreement which can be found by clicking New Client Forms. Read it carefully, there are some exceptions.
Is coaching a form of therapy? Coaching is meant to challenge, uplift and support you psychologically, however, it is not psychotherapy. Coaching work, especially in the personal realm, is meant to be undertaken when major emotional and psychological wounds are already healing or healed. And yes, it is possible to work simultaneously with me and a therapist as long as we are both informed and your therapist agrees to the shared working relationship.
Are you certified? Yes. I am a Master Certified Coach personally trained and certified by Martha Beck, Ph.D. and I have a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
